Milner admits he will be rooting for United in the Manchester derby

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has admitted that he will be supporting Manchester United for the first time when they entertain Manchester City in the midweek derby. The Reds are currently at the top of the Premier League after 35 games played, but they require a favour from one of their opponents, considering the Citizens are just two points behind them with the game in hand.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Milner acknowledged that he would be rooting for the Red Devils during the Manchester derby on Wednesday. However, he added that he would not waste time watching the game and would rather look at the scoreline thereafter, he said: “First time in my life. But I won’t be watching. It’s a bit of a waste of energy, willing the ball in the other goal. I can’t do anything about it. I’ll maybe put my phone away for a few hours and check it after. I’ve no idea what I’ll do, maybe go out for some food.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Fred will get his chance to prove himself

Manchester United’s interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Fred will get the chance to prove himself during the remaining months of the campaign. The Brazil international has barely featured for the Red Devils since Ole took charge in December but he stands the opportunity to start during the midweek league fixture at Crystal Palace.

Speaking to reporters, Ole stated that Fred will get the opportunity to impress with the team and he must take the chance with both hands, he said: “It is not like we have been bogged down with too many games. Scott McTominay was the obvious choice against Liverpool because he was an academy kid – we had five academy kids at one point on the pitch. He knows what it means. You have to look at the time it needs to settle. You look at Juan [Sebastian Veron] – he is one of the best players that I played with – and it took him time to settle. And I am sure that when given the chance and a run in the team Fred will grab the opportunity. Fred will get his chances.”

Willy Caballero speaks on his relationship with Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea’s back-up goalkeeper Willy Caballero has said that he continues to hold a good relationship with Kepa Arrizabalaga despite the Spaniard’s antics in the League Cup final defeat to Manchester City. The Spain international was dropped from the lineup to face Tottenham Hotspur after the drama which unfolded during the weekend’s League Cup final but this did not affect the team’s performance as they secured a comfortable 2-0 win.

Speaking after the game, Caballero said that he has no concerns with the club’s number one despite the Spaniard refusing to be subbed off against the Citizens last weekend, he said: “We passed the last few days in good harmony, trying to talk about things and how to beat Spurs, and we did it. It was probably very important [what happened] because it was in a final but it doesn’t matter. We improved a lot and we are more together than ever. Is everything okay between me and Kepa? Yes, of course. We spoke about it after the incident and it was good to have a chat with him. He learned a lot from what happened, we learned a lot as a team.”
