English Premier League side Liverpool are currently locked in negotiations with their Egyptian star Mohammed Salah and his representatives over a new contract, according to reports. The Reds are impressed with Salah and are keen to offer him a new contract extension that will keep him at the club for a few more years. The reports about Liverpool opening contract extension talks with Salah started making the rounds from two weeks ago but nothing serious started between the parties involved until the turn of the new week.

After a strong start to the new season, Salah has impressed manager Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board and they are willing to tie him down to a new contract as soon as possible.

While talks are expected to be successful and the player is expected to pen a new contact renewal at Anfield, there is a slight problem at the moment. Reports are claiming that Salah is demanding a whopping £500k-a-week salary to remain at Liverpool but the club are still trying to negotiate with the player and his agent to see if they can reduce the figure a little. Sources say that Salah believes that he has earned himself the status at the club and believes that he deserves a whopping new contract.

It is not expected that Salah will reject a number of contract offers by Liverpool but the club will also have it at the back of their mind that a slight breakdown in talks could cost them their star player next summer.

The case of Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona over a breakdown in contract talks to sign for French Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain will definitely come to mind and the Reds will want to try very hard to avoid such a scenario with their superstar forward.
