Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Fred will get his chance to prove himself

Manchester United’s interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Fred will get the chance to prove himself during the remaining months of the campaign. The Brazil international has barely featured for the Red Devils since Ole took charge in December but he stands the opportunity to start during the midweek league fixture at Crystal Palace.

Speaking to reporters, Ole stated that Fred will get the opportunity to impress with the team and he must take the chance with both hands, he said: “It is not like we have been bogged down with too many games. Scott McTominay was the obvious choice against Liverpool because he was an academy kid – we had five academy kids at one point on the pitch. He knows what it means. You have to look at the time it needs to settle. You look at Juan [Sebastian Veron] – he is one of the best players that I played with – and it took him time to settle. And I am sure that when given the chance and a run in the team Fred will grab the opportunity. Fred will get his chances.”

Both Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic have been sidelined ahead of the midweek league game at Selhurst Park and this could bring Fred into the fray, should Ole not favour the services of Andreas Pereira. Still, that may not necessary reward him with a long-term role, unless he manages to make a huge impression on the manager with the game time on offer.

United have dropped one point off the fourth position after the goalless stalemate against Liverpool but they could make ground with a victory over Palace, should fourth-placed Arsenal drop points against Bournemouth. Ole has already confirmed that as many as eight players could miss the match but the fans will still expect the team to overcome Palace on the road with the better defensive shape.
